Waitara project tenement (EPMA27609) is located around 20 km southeast of Nebo, 85 km southwest of Mackay. It is located 30 km northeast of Duke Exploration’s flagship Bundarra project, in the Central Queensland coal fields.

Waitara Location Map

Waitara Project Location

The project area is located within the Connors Sub-province of the New England Orogen, to the east of the Bowen Basin, encompassing Waitara Porphyry and Dennison Creek mineral occurrence targets. The ground was identified as prospective by the mineral potential mapping due to the presence of a Devonian-Cretaceous intrusion, faults, competency contrast, and anomalous copper, gold, and lead in drilling and rock-chip geochemistry data.

GSQ Surface Geology Map, Mineral Occurrences and Porphyry Modelling Targets

A review of historic company and government reports has confirmed the prospectivity of the area for porphyry Cu-Mo mineralisation. The reports describe encouraging geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and drilling data that all support a porphyry Cu-Mo mineral system model.

Anomalous historic drill intersections include:

  • 2 m @ 0.17% Cu
  • 305 m @ 0.22% Cu
  • 143 m @ 0.27% Cu
  • 99 m @ 0.34% Cu
  • 9 m @ 1.32% Cu

Duke will apply its understanding of the mineral system gained from work on the Bundarra tenement to the Waitara area. The key discovery from Bundarra that electromagnetic and IP geophysical techniques can directly map the copper-gold mineralisation will aid in defining the scale and orientation of the mineralised zones.
